Candle guide
Congratulations on your new Candle from C&H. We hope you enjoy your candle and with this guide we hope that you get to enjoy it more.
First burn!
Your candle is pre trimmed to suit your first burn and to make the most out of your first encounter allow your candle to burn all the way to the edge, generally 2 - 3 hours, this allows the candle to create a full melt pool and avoid potential tunnelling/ memory ring. Keep in mind that it’s best to not burn the candle at any longer than 4 hours other wise the candle can become unstable.
Before you light a candle!
Trim the wick to ¼ inch and remove any debris left in the wax pool such as wick trimmings. Any debris will add more fuel to the candle than it’s designed to handle. Too much fuel can cause the flame to unexpectedly flare up or even start a small fire near the candle flame. Wicks that are left long or crooked can cause uneven burning, dripping, flaring and sooting. Trimming wicks will help prolong the life of your candle. Your candles will burn up to 25% and produce less soot if you trim before relighting see here .
Mushroom!
Burning the candle too long can cause a carbon build up on the tip of the wick, we call this a mushroom as it looks like a mushroom has formed. When this happens the flame will become larger and more unstable, best to put the candle out and allow to cool before relighting. Once cooled down, remove the mushroom and a little bit of the stem relight and enjoy.
Keep away!
When burning a candle, avoid proximity to fans, air conditioners, open windows, or crowded areas with people walking back and forth. Moving air can disturb the flame, resulting in those pesky black marks on the glass and causing the candle to burn faster. Avoid placing the candle in high traffic areas as it maybe knocked causing it to fall and cause a potential fire.
